Thanksgiving would not be Thanksgiving without a turkey. I like turkey as much as the other person, but sometimes the Thanksgiving turkey gets a little boring. In my own family, we prefer to mix things up a little bit. Heck at times we'll even skip the turkey in favor of some thing a little less traditional as ribs or prime rib. But for people who want the conventional Thanksgiving Turkey there are plenty of different ways to prepare a turkey (including smoking your turkey, cooking your turkey in a turkey fryer, and so on.). Here are five different easy methods to prepare turkey which are a bit unlike the norm, but just as tasty.
Roasted Turkey - Firstly, I just have got to include Grandma's favourite roasted turkey. After all, what exactly would Thanksgiving be without Grandma's roasted turkey and homemade mashed potatoes? This roasted turkey is the easiest turkey recipe you'll find. Simply, you remove the giblets and clean the turkey in cold water. Pat the turkey dry then put 3 Tbsp of butter under the skin. Prepare a broth made of water, chicken bouillon, onion fine-grained powder, parsley, salt and pepper. Pour the lean soup directly over the turkey, cover with foil and cook for 3 1/2 hours at 350. Remove the aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes more for a golden brown skin. Serve along with homemade mashed potatoes, gravy, and your favorite Thanksgiving meals!
Barbecue Turkey - We like to grill and grill all year long, whatever the weather. We put many other things on the grill, why not a turkey too? Grilling a turkey gives it a unique flavor and texture that you just can't get from an oven. While barbecuing a turkey, place the turkey in a baking pan over the fire; this way you can actually baste the turkey periodically the same way you would do if you were roasting it.
Fried Turkey - Those of you who love crisp turkey skin will LOVE fried turkeys. A deep fried turkey is tasty and using a turkey fryer to prepare turkeys is becoming more and more popular, particularly now that the turkey fryer is becoming a common kitchen appliance. While a lot of turkey fryers are deep fryers where you use peanut oil in a large frying pot, there are also oil free infrared turkey fryers too, which minimize the mess of frying. Fried turkeys tend to have dark crisp skin (which my family fights over!), and under that tasty skin is tender, perfectly prepared meat that your family will love.
Turducken - This particular strange sounding turkey is a combination of different de-boned fowl: turkey, duck, and chicken. They are all put together and layered with stuffing to create this latest addition to the Thanksgiving table.
Smoked Turkey - One of my favourite ways of preparing turkey is smoking it. I just love the flavour of a smoked turkey, both at Thanksgiving dinner and for those wonderful leftover turkey sandwiches. Smoking a turkey needs several hours, but it is soooo worth it! One advice when smoking a turkey - placing a pan of water over the smoker will help hold in moisture and make a moist, juicy turkey that everyone will enjoy.
